In the first part, basic principles of communication and communication systems are described. Next, the thesis switches to radio communication, specifically high and very high frequency communication. This part is complemented by SELCAL system. Furthermore, the thesis describes modern communication systems starting with CPDLC, which provides data link communication. It continues with aeronautical telecommunication network, ATN. Main part is finished by satellite systems, AMSS, with support systems. There are described satellites and satellite networks provided by INMARSAT and Iridium NEXT, AMSS channels and architecture. Finally the thesis describes LDACS, technology which shares many elements with actual 4G mobile network.
