The sharp increase in the number of passengers carried in recent years indicates a further expansion of the area. Papers deals with the current state of air transport in China and is then focused on the evaluation of a selected factor of the macroenvironment for the development of air transport in the region. Based on the current global situation with a COVID-19 pandemic, paper also marginally its impact on the country's economy and the development of air transport. The thesis of linking the growth of the country's gross domestic product and the traveling public is proved by calculating the correlation between GDP and the number of transported passengers.
