Two general types of navigational aids and systems are presented, which are, on one hand the conventional, ground-based radionavigational aids and on the other hand, the more modern, satellite based systems. Differneces between them are explained together with their advantages and disadvantages. The current situation in this area is analysed, especially in Slovakia with its surrounding countries, and the changes in procedures that occur in time are noted. The next way of evolution in the future is also indicated based on commenced processes as well as the current legislation concerning this area.
