Comparison of pilot's workload during NDB and ILS approaches
(University of Zilina, 2021) Fedáš, Július; Škvareková, Iveta
The paper is focused on the comparison of workloads of pilots during the precision ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach and non- precision NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) approach. For the needs of our work, we used technology to measure heart rate variability, which was used to collect the authoritative data needed to analyze the workload and stress levels of the tested participants. Our study involved four pilots, who were divided into two groups, a group of beginner pilots and advanced pilots. Practical measurements were performed on the flight simulator L410 UVP-E20, which is located in the premises of the Flight training and education center of the University of Žilina. The aim of our work was to find out and compare to what extent the workload during NDB and ILS approach of pilots with different levels of practical and theoretical experience will be different and also to compare these two approach systems with each other. We chose the final phase of the flight, due to its complexity and overall demands on piloting, which in this case has been the precision approach and non- precision approach. Practical measurement and analysis of the obtained data showed that the tested pilots indicated significant differences in the level of workload, resulting from their experience.. We also noticed a slight difference after comparing the two approaches. The conclusion of our work contains a summary of the measured results, as well as the perspective of the contribution of measuring the workload to the future and its use in a wider range

MOŽNOSTI VYUŽITIA SIMULÁTORA ESCAPE LIGHT V PROCESE VÝUČBY PREDMETU MANAŽMENT LETOVEJ PREVÁDZKY
(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Holocsyová, Lenka; Materna, Matúš
In pursuance of this paper we have proposed the possibilities of applying Escape Light simulator in the process of the Air Traffic Management education. This subject is a part of the engineering study at the Department of Air Transport at the University of Žilina. The ESCAPE Light simulator, which is available at the department, is currently unused. In this paper we have proposed a way in which it would be possible to apply the simulator, with a current designed simulations, to the practical education of the subject. We have designed a new curriculum for the practical and theoretical part of education as well. The content of the theoretical education of the first part of the Air Traffic Management subject consists of the content that is mostly usable in the following exercises with the simulator. The second part is devoted to the study of international organizations influencing the provision and providers of air navigation services, unexpected and emergency situations in aviation. The lectures are proposed to create a clear orientation in air traffic management, procedures and processes. During the practical education, students will participate 10 exercises with the Escape Light simulator during two semesters. We have designed the traning with this device in a way, in wich every student will learn how to control simulator in both positions, as an air traffic cotroller and pseudopilot as well. Students will learn the procedures of establishing radio contact, estimates of headings, assignment of flight levels with the relevant aviation phraseology. Students will also learn operating procedures, working with flight strips and a radar situation display.
