The aim of this paper is to present current navigation systems and their use in air transport. Describing their history, categories, principles of operation and practical use. The paper also deals with the problems of navigation systems in determining the accuracy of positioning and errors that may occur in determining the position. It focuses primarily on the current, most advanced navigation systems, called the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) used to determine the exact location of an observer on Earth. It describes the function and accuracy of systems such as American GPS, Russian GLONASS, European Galileo and Chinese BeiDou and points out their importance in navigation. It also compares the quality of individual systems. It deals with the construction, structure, principles of operation and factors that influence their resulting positioning accuracy. The augmentation navigation systems SBAS, GBAS and ABAS, which are closely related to GNSS systems are also mentioned in this paper.en_US
