Item Analýza nekonvenčných aerodynamických konfigurácií lietadiel(University of Žilina, 2024) Šlachtič, Emil; Veľký, PatrikThis article deals with the research and analysis of unconventional aerodynamic configurations of aircraft, developed in the aerospace industry. Primary CFD simulations of the respective models were used for the purpose of research and analysing the configurations, as well as analysis of the airflow around the 3D models in the wind tunnel of Air Transport Department. The aim was to find out why these configurations are not being used, or why they should be used in the aviation industry nowadays. The analysis was carried out mainly from an aerodynamic point of view. The different models were chosen based mainly on IATA’s forecast of trends in air transport. From the analyses, it was found that certain models are more efficient than their conventional counterparts, mainly due to the reduction in induced drag. However, these configurations are also much more sensitive to flutter due to the high aspect ratio, which poses a challenge especially from a structural point of view. Ti can therefore be assumed that the reason for not using these configurations represent a significant reduction in operating costs, they are unprofitable for operators. In contrast, BWB configurations appear very promising in terms of both efficiency and fuel savings, and it is therefore assumed that these models may enter service in 2030.Item Design of particle image velocimetry system for the wind tunnel of University of Žilina(University of Zilina, 2022) Pancurák, Daniel; Pecho, PavolDue to always ongoing innovation in research ability of our research facility it was decided to innovate already existing wind tunnel by implementing system of Particle Image Velocimetry. Main goal of this thesis is to create sufficient technical solution for implementation of Particle Image Velocimetry measuring systems. This system will allow creation of accurate measurements of aerodynamic forces and visualise airflow direction and its strength. Implementation of this system consists of designing sufficient structure to allow proper mount and movement of laser light source, which will be high power laser and mount for camera, which will be used to capture images of airflow of measured parts. In terms of laser stand, the main goal was to simplify the construction to decrease costs of structure and to create room for future upgrades and implementations of possible motorisation and electronic controls. For main construction were chosen steel profiles with square cut and size of 30x30 mm to match already existing construction used to stabilise measured part in test chamber. Implementation of this system of measurement will increase research abilities and it will create room for more projects, which depend on this method of measurement. Particle Image Velocimetry has wide range of usage from automotive industry through aviation to designing of spray nozzles. This will create large research opportunities for other facilities and professionals from different parts of industry, since this technology will be one of the first implemented into wind tunnel in Slovakia.Item Morphing wings of aircraft(University of Zilina, 2022) Jackuliak, Jakub; Bugaj, MartinGoal of the paper is to describe use of morphing wings on aircraft and their possible use to increase aerodynamic efficiency of aircraft. Paper is divided into two parts. First part focuses on design and material requirements of morphing wings as well as describes some of studied concepts. Second part compares studied concepts using gathered data and proposes possible combinations of concepts with goal of further increase of aerodynamic efficiency.Item Simulations of aerodynamics(University of Zilina, 2021) Novák, Miroslav; Bugaj, MartinThe aim of the paper is to approach the issue of simulations in aerodynamics. To describe the physical rules and basic mathematical equations, which are essential in the use of computing techniques. The paper deals with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and informations which are necessary for its understanding, the author further describes different software programs used for simulation purposes. By means of analyzing technical papers, the author compares and describes software considering to their practical use. The author also describes the aerodynamic tunnels and clarifies the basic issues related to aerodynamic tunnels and discuss factors that affect the resulting measurement quality. The author deals with methods of measuring individual physical quantities that are the interest of simulation or measurement. At the end of the paper, the author compares the specific aerodynamic tunnels and the possibilities of measurements that aerodynamics tunnels provide.
