The Scientific journal AEROjournal is published by The Air Transport Department at the University of Zilina. It offers aviation professionals and academics an opportunity for publication of their research outcomes covering wide range of current issues in air transportation. The Air Transport Department at the University of Zilina (ATD) is a centre for education, research, and training in civil aviation. ATD provides accredited study programmes in a three - tier course structure of university education - bachelor, Ing (equivalent to MSc.) and PhD degrees. We also provide complex aircraft pilot training up to the CPL/IR/MEP (A) level (Commercial Pilot with twin-engine aeroplane qualification and qualification for flying in accordance with Instrument Flight Rules) and a theory up to the frozen ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot) level including Multi Crew Cooperation course. ATD is also the base of the National Civil Aviation Security Training Centre of the Slovak Republic. The Centre runs basic aviation security courses in line with the EU regulations for all categories of personnel in aviation. The papers in this journal cover all the aspects of aviation (including airlines, airports, air traffic management, aerospace and maintenance).

Advancements in VDL and CPDLC: revolutionizing European aviation communication
(University of Žilina, 2023) Novák, Andrej; Kováčiková, Kristína
The paper is focused on the transformative impact of VDL and CPDLC on aviation safety, efficiency, and reliability. Tracing the historical evolution from radio systems to the adoption of VDL and its integration within Europe's unified airspace initiatives, this paper deals with key theories including VDL Mode 2, ACARS, Aeronautical Telecommunication Network, ADS-B, and CPDLC. Emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle communication challenges, the paper spotlights CPDLC's evolution integrating AI, Machine Learning, cybersecurity protocols, and technological integrations like 5G and satellites. Human-Computer Interaction research underscores user-friendly CPDLC interface designs. Methodologies encompass operational analyses, communication protocols, avionics technologies, and usability testing. Aligning with the Single European Sky initiative, the integration of VDL and CPDLC anticipates emerging trends while addressing challenges like interoperability, training complexities, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities through proposed solutions. The paper offers a comprehensive understanding of advancements shaping the modern aviation communication landscape.

Detekcia rušenia signálu GNSS na letiskách
(University of Žilina, 2023) Velčický, Ján; Novák, Andrej
Although the Global Navigation Satellite System provides an increased precision in instrument approaches, it is vulnerable to various signal interferences causing either decreased position accuracy or a complete loss of GNSS signal reception. One of the major threats to a GNSS receiver is the intentional interference known as jamming. Incoming airplanes can be seriously endangered by such signal loss. This bachelor’s thesis addresses the detection and classification of possible unintentional and intentional interference and spoofing attacks on airplanes in proximity to the airdrome Žilina. Besides that, other systems which show sufficient reliability are compared. Additionally, critical parts of RNP approach chart map are evaluated. Finally, a device called HackRF ONE is selected to be put in aerodrome proximity for detection of possible GNSS interference. Using this software defined radio as unmanned aerial vehicle alarm and protection system is another suggested possibility.

    AMSS in Europe
(University of Žilina, 2022) Novák, Andrej; Kováčiková, Kristína
Nowadays, technology is developing rapidly, therefore satellite and aviation systems need to keep pace with modern trends and new technology. The paper is focused on satellite systems and aviation systems. Based on analysis of the issues it is possible to take measures against problems that may arise in the future. There is a need for satellite-based navigation system that can solve the problems of the existing systems and make the existing systems better and more efficient by providing great convenience to the airspace users for the safe, efficient, comfortable and economical realisation of flights in the future. The paper contains information about Air Communication and Navigation Systems and discusses the state of current aviation and satellite systems.

Analysis of the earth's surface influence on the accuracy of non directional beacon in mountain terrain
(University of Zilina, 2021) Novák, Andrej; Novák Sedláčková, Alena; Lusiak, Tomasz; Stelmach, Anna
This paper deals with the measuring and checking of the Non Directional Beacon using flying laboratory AeroLab 1 at University of Zilina. It is based on the most simple radio navigation concept: a ground-based radio transmitter (the NDB) sends an omnidirectional signal that an aircraft loop antenna receives. Our practical measurement shows that the NDB satisfies ICAO standards and can be used in industrial part of urban area and is functional in spite of the interference. The paper concentrates on the measuring of the Non Directional Beacon (NDB) which is installed close to industrial part of the city. The ADF/NDB navigation system is one of the oldest air navigation system still in use today. One of the paper's goals is to familiarize the aviation public with the practical measurement of this urban area phenomenon in terms of flight safety, which is common in mountainous nations such as Slovakia. The article's other purpose is to educate professionals in the area about this occurrence in terms of its nature as a physical rule, in order to develop solutions to improve the navigation system's measurement accuracy.

ANALÝZA RUŠENIA SIGNÁLU GNSS NA LETISKU POPRAD- TATRY
(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Novák, Andrej; Novák Sedláčková, Alena; Stelmach, Anna
The paper is focused on the GNSS signal interference during the airport approach procedures at small Slovak regional airport Poprad-Tatry. The paper analyzes the simulation of the situation during the identification and monitoring of GNSS signal interference by ground station situated at the airport. Nowadays is still important to develop air transport and increasing the safety and continuity of provided services even at small regional airports. One of the most appropriate possibilities is to use at this kind of airports with insufficiently equipped navigation infrastructure the GNSS approach. The monitoring of reliability of this system and implementation of monitoring the GNSS signal interference in the final phase of the instrument approach will increase the safety of the flight.

MEASUREMENT OF GNSS INTERFERENCE AT AIRPORT ZILINA
(University of Zilina, 2019) Kováčik, Ľubomír; Novák, Andrej; Lusiak, Tomasz
The paper described the problems of GNSS interference measurement at airport Zilina. The Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are widely used both for civilian and military operations to determine the location, speed, acceleration, and trajectory of the user on the ground. GNSS refers to a constellation of satellites that provide signals from space transmitting positioning and timing on data receivers. The intentional errors include jamming and spoofing which are caused by systems sharing the same frequency illegally. The method for measuring signal interference is defined by the parameters that affect the calculation of the position of interest. Monitoring the extent of the interference and its impact is a necessary procedure for the successful management of aircraft operations at the airport.
