Item AIRLINE HUBBING CONCEPTS(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Števárová, Lucia; Badánik, BenediktNew forms of cooperation between airlines have been in place since nineties. Airline alliances have been formed among network carriers. Before, cooperation of airlines was based on bilateral agreements on code-sharing of their flights. For instance, in 1989 KLM and Northwest agreed on large-scale code sharing. Nowadays, three major alliances might be recognized - Star Alliance, SkyTeam and oneworld. Together, they count for two thirds of total number of available seat kilometres. Airlines in alliances benefit from extended network and economies of scope and are prone to gain competitive advantage over the market by being able to offer more O&Ds and multiple routings via their hubs. Furthermore, they might save cost by sharing their capacity, facilities (gates, premium lounges) and equipment with partner airlines. Airline networks are defined by served markets, number of destinations, their configuration and airline business models. There are two concepts of network structures recognised nowadays: Hub and spoke and Point-to-point. This paper offers insights to the Hub and spoke concept. First of all, it examines hubbing concepts in general, it describes detailed aspects that influence passenger connectivity and on top of that it offers different hub airports wave patterns and airline hubbing concepts.Item Aspects of airline crew rostering(University of Zilina, 2021) Le Duc, Manh; Badánik, BenediktAirline crew rostering is a complicated planning-type problem, and its objective is to assemble pairings into schedules that maximise the satisfaction levels of crews. The rostering process focuses on achieving a more balanced workload distribution among the crewmembers that allows designing rosters in the interest of the crew. The main purpose of the paper was to explain the fundamental aspects of airline crew rostering and its impact on crewmembers’ fatigue. Additionally, the research identified mitigation measures that airlines should make to combat or mitigate crewmembers’ fatigue when designing their rosters. The paper also allowed readers to understand the effects of fatigue on crew’s alertness and performance. The qualitative research methods (such as literature review) was used to understand the complexity of the airline crew rostering, the flight and duty time limitations, crew’s rest requirement and crewmembers’ fatigue. The survey was used as the quantitative research method to identify crewmembers’ satisfaction with their rosters that would help to optimise the rostering process. An online survey (using Google Forms) was distributed to potential respondents (experienced crewmembers) via email addresses and online platforms. Respondents were asked 18 close ended questions divided into two parts (demographic and operational experience). One hundred eleven responses were gathered, which showed that age plays a crucial role in crewmembers’ fatigue. In addition, cargo pilots are usually more dissatisfied with their rosters due to exhausting flight duty periods at nights.Item Digital media airline crisis communication(University of Žilina, 2023) Máčadi, Marek; Badánik, BenediktThis article explains what social media is and how influential can social media be. Focus of this paper is on usage of digital media by airlines during times of crisis. This article explains what digital media and Twitter are, how airline use Twitter as a social media platform to communicate with its stakeholders, customers and employees during crisis and how digital media can be used by airlines to efficiently communicate with interested parties. Furthermore, examples of inadequate crisis communication made by airlines during major crisis incidents will be shown as an example of what consequences can incorrect crisis communication cause.Item Forecasting flight delays using machine learning(University of Žilina, 2024) Soloviov, Mykhailo; Badánik, BenediktThis article considers machine learning and its utilization in the domain of air transportation. The first part of this research aims to define machine learning, describe its historical development and helps delineate machine learning in a broader framework of other data analysis approaches such as artificial intelligence, deep learning and data science. In the second part, the research is meant to explain what machine learning is, tell more about the types of machine learning and how it is used in different scenarios in the aviation industry. This part of the thesis discusses certain areas and real examples of how machine learning is used by multiple companies (aircraft manufacturers) as well as examines the available conclusions of researches already undertaken in the area and determines their connection to the current one. Finally, the practical part of the thesis uses the collected real-time data about departures from two American airports, analyses it with the help of statistical Python-based tools, describes the developed machine-learning algorithm to predict delays, runs experiments on data and discusses results.Item LETECKÁ NÁKLADNÁ DOPRAVA V SR(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Štefanec, Filip; Badánik, BenediktThis paper describes the development of air freight transport in the current Slovak Republic (historically part of the first Czechoslovakia and later Czechoslovak Socialist Republic) and in the world. The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes the rates used in air freight transportation and the markets and commodities transported by air most frequently. The thesis aims to identify the types of commodities transported, their volumes and values. The characteristics of commodities are described in Chapters 2 and 4. The work compares the values, weights and volume of transported air cargo commodities between the Slovak Republic and countries with similar GDP per capita and compares the volume of transported goods at M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava with surrounding competing airports abroad. Finally, it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the geographical location of the Slovak Republic in relation to the transport flows of air goods within Europe.Item Marketing of low-cost carriers(University of Žilina, 2023) Mihalčinová, Nikola; Badánik, BenediktThe article deals with the marketing of low-cost airlines and marketing strategies. The article primarily focuses on three selected airlines - Wizz Air, Ryanair and easyJet. The aim of this article is to propose specific possibilities for improving marketing activities based on the theoretical basis obtained from relevant sources and the subsequent processing of the practical part. Proposals are based on the analysis of marketing strategies, including marketing mix, Porter's five forces model, perception map, passenger segmentation, BCG matrix and Ansoff matrix, and evaluate the success and effectiveness of airline marketing activities. The results of the analysis show that airlines could improve their marketing activities through various strategies, such as increasing investment in digital marketing, improving service and customer experience, adapting prices and product packages to the needs of different passenger segments, and expanding the market into new areas. These recommendations can help airlines improve their competitiveness and market success and contribute to their long-term success.Item MOŽNOSTI REKLAMY V PROSTREDÍ LETECKEJ DOPRAVY(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Fábik, Miroslav; Badánik, BenediktThe aim of this paper is an analysis and research of an advertisement success rate on the additional and the commission services of low-cost airlines. As an analysis method of the research we choose a questionnaire. Its goal was to identify a perception of the additional services advertisement and a form of the promotion from the passenger’s perspective. From the analysis results of the questionnaire participants were concluded drawbacks in form of an advertisement serving and an incorrect aiming of the additional services advertisement. Component of the paper evaluation are recommendations for a higher effectiveness of the additional services seller’s strategy and a reduction of a negative perception on the form of advertisement promotion for the additional and the commission services of the low-cost airlines.Item Návrh a realizácia softvérového a hadrvéroveho vybavenia simulátora pracoviska letovej prevádzky pre potreby katedry leteckej dopravy(University of Žilina, 2024) Remiaš, Matej; Badánik, BenediktIn the aviation industry, air traffic control simulators are mainly used for training new controllers, but they also have their justification in the field of teaching. The basis of the simulator is the software in which it works and the corresponding hardware. The main topic of the final thesis is the construction of an air traffic control simulator for the needs of the Department of Air Transport at the University of Žilina, the selection of suitable software and related hardware. The hardware was selected based on the minimum requirements set by the software manufacturer for its optimal operation. This process involved a thorough market research through online stores, with the aim of finding hardware with the best price-performance ratio, which would be able to fulfill its function even after several years of its deployment. The result of this work is a functional air traffic control simulator and exercise design in the ESCAPE Light software that can be used for teaching and research at the Department of Air Transport.Item Návrh a vybudovanie simulátora pracoviska riadiaceho letovej prevádzky pre potreby katedry leteckej dopravy(University of Žilina, 2024) Kupka, Hugo; Badánik, BenediktThe growing popularity of air travel increases the demands on qualified ATC personnel. Despite technological advances offering operational benefits, the ever-increasing need for skilled personnel remains. The diploma thesis deals with the construction of an ATC simulator at the Department of Air Transport. The ATC simulator is an excellent practice-educational aid, among other things, quite fun, for students who are interested in the air traffic control industry or who want to become air traffic controllers. Simulator training enhances their practical skills and prepares them for the demands of industry. Through a study of the global concept of ATC simulators and market analysis, we introduce the reader to the issue of ATC simulators. This is followed by a focus on the analysis of ATC simulators used for personnel training in Slovakia and neighboring countries. After a theoretical introduction to ATC simulators, we define the goals and methodological approaches of the work, which prepare the ground for the following practical part of the work, in which we will focus exclusively on the simulator we built. We will move on to examine in more detail the build, configuration and key roles of the "Escape Light" software provided by Eurocontrol which is our simulation software for ATC simulations. Through detailed explanations and visualizations, we will clarify the functions and features of the individual program parts of the Escape Light software, which are necessary for the effective operation of the simulator. In the final part, we will describe the finished simulator and all the functionalities it has. The creation of the exercise is the necessary conclusion of the construction, and at the same time it is the result of the practical application of the knowledge gained during the construction of the simulator.Item Optimisation of airport airside operations and reduction of aircraft delays(University of Žilina, 2024) Plško, Lukáš; Badánik, BenediktThe demand for air transport has a rising tendency over the years. This leads to more and more aircraft movements at a given time. This increase may lead to traffic congestions and an increase in aircraft delays. Airports cannot expand indefinitely and therefore they need to look for other options to mitigate the congestions. The main objective of this paper is to increase airport airside efficiency and thus reduce aircraft delays at a chosen airport. Second chapter is dedicated to currently deployed solutions at airports and theories discussed among researchers which may help the cause. Fifth and sixth chapter focuses on airport airside efficiency at the Dubai International Airport. An in-house software solution for tracking ADS-B data is used for these needs. Output of this paper is an analysis of airport operations at the airport and recommendations are made to increase airport airside efficiency and reduction of aircraft delays.Item Optimisation of turboprop aircraft operations as a means to reduce their environmental footprint(University of Zilina, 2021) Števárová, Lucia; Badánik, BenediktThis paper deals with the subject of optimisation of turboprop aircraft operations to decrease their environmental footprint. This aircraft category is not at the forefront of optimisation efforts of operators as it supplies lower volumes of traffic and is equipped with the most fuel-efficient technology for missions served on regional markets. The theoretical part of this paper details turboprop aircraft contributions to global CO2 emissions and analyses aspects behind their efficient performance. Further, it provides a thorough assessment of the operational practices that can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of turboprop aircraft operations. For better illustration, some are exemplified in simple case studies. The practical part of this work aimed to quantify the effects of operational optimisation on turboprop aircraft. Based on the theoretical analysis, we established five operational adjustments whose effects can be determined using performance calculations. These calculations have been carried out using ATR 72-600 aircraft as a reference for a specified average turboprop flight. It was found that through operational adjustments, the fuel consumption on an average ATR 72-600 flight can be decreased on the order of 10%. The energy intensity of operations defined in CO2 per revenue passenger kilometre could be nearly halved compared to actual values of the ATR 72-600 fleet.Item Possibilities of implementation remote control towers concept at Slovak airports(University of Žilina, 2023) Veselovský, Šimon; Badánik, BenediktThe aim of this article is to evaluate the feasibility of implementing virtual control towers at airports in Slovakia. The introduction provides an overview of virtual control towers, including their concept, usage, advantages, disadvantages, and existing implementations. The paper outlines the requirements for implementing such a system and presents a preliminary design and analysis of virtual control towers for Slovakian airports. The study covers the design and evaluation of the implementation, from a general perspective to specific airport analysis, and proposes a plan for implementing virtual towers in Slovakia based on available information. In conclusion, the author discusses the financial and technical aspects of implementation, as well as an assessment of the suitability of this concept for Slovakian airports. Remote towers have been proven to be a viable option for small and medium-sized airports, offering increased flexibility and cost reduction through centralized remote control of multiple airports. However, implementing virtual control towers in Slovakia would come with significant financial implications.Item Quality of service at airports(University of Zilina, 2021) Proft, Branislav; Badánik, BenediktAt present, air transport is on the rise and with it are the airlines, airports and services they provide. Their quality is reflected in revenues as well as in the number of airlines using the airport. The aim of this paper is to evaluate what services are offered to individual airport customers, how to evaluate customer satisfaction with services and the last chapter focuses on evaluating the quality of services offered to airlines and crew, where a method of evaluating services provided by airports from the airlines based on an analysis of current ways of measuring the quality of these services. Finally, possible service improvements are described, which could streamline the operation of the airport.Item Quality of services provided by Boryspil airport(University of Zilina, 2022) Turkinevych, Yelyzaveta; Badánik, BenediktThe aim of the diploma thesis is to develop a proposal for the implementation of the SmartGate system to improve the passport control process in international passenger transport services at the Boryspil Airport. The theoretical part deals with the existing methods of evaluating the quality of airport services and offers an algorithm for airport service quality indicators stigmatization. The analytical part of the work is devoted to the analysis of production and financial activities and competitive advantages of Boryspil Airport. In the project part, modern information technologies of air transport services at the world's leading airports were considered and the efficiency of the SmartGate system implementation at Boryspil Airport was calculated.Item Social media as a tool for airline service quality assessment(University of Žilina, 2023) Buday, Adam; Badánik, BenediktOur study investigates the perception of service quality of 12 airlines by using a mixed-method approach that consists of numerical analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and qualitative examination of Twitter customer service. Our findings reveal that Twitter is the most popular social media platform in the airline industry, with U.S.-based airlines being the most active. The analysis of customer feedback on Twitter showed noticeable differences between full-service and low-cost carriers, with the former receiving more complaints regarding booking and in-flightservice quality, and the latter receiving more complaints regarding delayed or cancelled flights and poor customer service. Overall, our research provides valuable insights into the significance of social media as a tool for promotional activities and customer service, while highlighting common issues in service quality perception by airline customers.Item ZMENY ÚLOH ANSP V BUDÚCOM PROSTREDÍ ATM(Žilinská univerzita v Žiline, 2020) Badánik, Benedikt; Reménységová, RebekaThis paper focuses on the future roles of air navigation service providers (ANSP). It describes the future structure of airspace and recognizes the need for improvement. The traditional role of ANSP is explained in the first chapter. It discusses the evolution of air navigation services from their dawn in 1920s. Additionally, it talks about the functions of ANSP and discusses their alliances and the trend of developing industrial partnerships instead of political. The differences between European and American air traffic control are reviewed, and the advantages of each system are described. The next chapter thoroughly explains the current airspace architecture, identifies its flaws, and shows possible solutions in the form of Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO) or, on a theoretical level, Functional Airspace Blocks FABs. The third chapter discusses the challenges and opportunities of the future air traffic management (ATM) architecture, with main focus on ANSP charges, civil and military cooperation and the responsibilities of ANSP during a worldwide pandemic. The fourth chapter is based around new concepts and roles. It explains the concepts of ATM Data Service Provider (ADSP), System Wide Information Management (SWIM), Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) and initiatives of Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR). It also outlines the tasks of the Wise Peron Group. Furthermore, in the final chapter, potential business models for ANSP are explained and categorized. Using SWOT analyzes the best potential model is chosen for the ANSP of Slovakia.
