Item Enhancing safety in glider flights(University of Žilina, 2023) Gánovský, Martin; Kandera, BranislavThe theme of paper is to find out new possibilities in safety improvements during sailplanes flights, focusing primarily on flights when the separation with other traffic is reduced. At the beginning a summary of glider evolution across the centuries is made starting with the interwar period to the shapes that we know from the latest exhibitions. First part of the paper is followed by the analysis of the current available technical measurements which enhance safety and reduce the probability of in-flight collisions during various phases of flight, including latest and most modern technical implementations used by glider operators to enhance the safety of themselves and others. We will also look up for any available legislative rules based both on national civil authority regulations defined by state itself and for regulations that were created by Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) which covers most of glider competitions organized world-wide. In practical part we followed our thoughts about how to improve the current situation in this part of the aviation industry. In following steps, we decided to ask the glider pilots about their personal experience with reduced separation caused by nearby gliders during different phases of operations. Generally, there is a huge number of mid-air collisions during sailplane competitions and flight phases where pilots are crossing each other by minimal separation (mountain ridge flying). We decided to suggest minor legislative regulations and technical implementations to improve current situation world-wide and make these flights as safe as possible with minimizing of future incidents.Item Danger of icing when operating unmanned aerial vehicles(University of Žilina, 2022) Ondrejková, Ivana; Kandera, BranislavThe paper examines icing on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) during the flight. We chose the Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 Pro UAV by company DJI to carry out the research. Research flights are performed during the early morning hours with meteorological conditions suitable for icing. We use the AirData application to analyse flight data. The aim of the work is to find out how dangerous icing is, what meteorological conditions are suitable for icing, how fast icing is formed during the operation of an unmanned aircraft and how it is possible to suppress or eliminate icing. In introduction of this work elaborated theoretical knowledge about the formation of icing and its types. Subsequently, the negative effects of icing on the flight are described, such as changes in lift, drag, controllability of the aircraft and others. The following section describes the accidents of UAV due to the impact of icing. After analysing the data from the mentioned application, we proposed recommendations for pilots of UAV. Before the flight, we recommend checking the meteorological forecast, focusing on the temperature and humidity at the flight area, usually up to 120 meters above the Earth surface. In-flight recommendations include monitoring rotation speed of propellers and frequent inspection of propellers in meteorological conditions suitable for icing and others.Item Influence of stress on the performance of pilots in training(University of Žilina, 2022) Goldschmidt, Jakub; Kandera, BranislavThis paper deals with the influence of stress that affects pilots in training, how stress affects their daily lives, but especially how it affects their concentration and performance during pilot training. It describes what risks, whether mental or physical, can occur to pilots in training. It also discusses about the factors that affect pilots. One of the factors is the kinetosis, to which more attention is paid and which had also become the subject of the research in this diploma thesis. The aim was to use a questionnaire to find out whether the pilots in the training encountered signs of motion sickness during the training, how it affected their concentration and how they dealt with these situations. In conclusion, based on these responses, we suggested possible preventive solutions for other future novice pilots on how to avoid motion sickness and if it had already occured, how it should be eliminated as much as possible not to affect performance and concentration of pilots.Item Specific risks of helicopter aerial works and their elimination(University of Zilina, 2022) Hajduková, Gréta Mária; Kandera, BranislavSafety is the highest priority in all aspects of air transportation. This paper is focused on different hazards and risks that might be encountered by helicopters during different types of aerial works and offers ways to mitigate those risks. The introductory part lists companies who are currently licensed for helicopter aerial work in Slovakia and outlines different types of aerial works. The methodology process describes four steps, which are then executed in the central part of the paper. The main part was written as a result of combining two different approaches to hazard identification – reactive and proactive – which encompassed studying and analyzing reports from helicopter accidents and incidents, as well as brainstorming techniques with assistance from aviation professionals. The results provide different mitigating techniques to lower assessed risks to tolerable values, along with alternative proposals of risk mitigation to air operators.Item Development of flight instruments for general aviation aircraft(University of Zilina, 2022) Ďuricová, Ema; Kandera, BranislavGiven the constantly evolving offer proposed for aircraft equipment, the aim of my work is to describe the innovations, that have been implemented in aircraft instruments. The content of the work is divided from the very beginnings of aircraft instruments and their gradual use and expansion. Subsequently, I deal with the data that are displayed by the devices, but also their design and the comparison of the current state compared to the initial versions. Innovations of aircraft instruments are focused on both components and the display of flight data, which leads to simplification of their operation and individual assembly. One of the advantages of modern instruments is their ability to detect errors that may occur during the flight, which serves the pilots to ensure the flight. Furthermore, I focused on the system of collection, processing and evaluation of information, as well as their final production on board the aircraft. My work is mainly focused on the Dynon system, whose functions, display and implementation I described in detail, use and design in aircraft cockpits. The main goal of the thesis is additional processing of information for the subject Aircraft Instruments I and their processing from the student's point of view.Item Monitoring of technical state of unmanned aerial vehicles(University of Zilina, 2022) Lagin, Samuel; Kandera, BranislavThe aim of this work is to study current possibilities of monitoring the technical state of the unmanned aircraft from the most basic activities to the more advanced aircraft systems. Partial goal is to create a simple general maintenance checklist for cases when the manufacturer does not publish any maintenance procedures, or the manufacturer is the owner and pilot of the aircraft, in case of DIY aircraft. Theoretical part is devoted to description of most common components of current UAVs and their possible failures and stating current possibilities for maintaining awareness of the technical state of the aircraft prior to, during and after the execution of a flight. Second part will state how to extract the flightlogs and what tools can be used to analyze them. The result of this work is creating general maintenance checklists as well as stating the information about the process of modifying this checklist for the UAV in question. Mentioned checklists will be created for pre-flight, post-flight and regular maintenance check.Item Inspecting activities with unmanned aerial vehicles in the energy industry(University of Zilina, 2021) Beszédes, Vladim; Kandera, BranislavThe paper acquaints the reader with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the energy industry. The first chapter is devoted to the distribution of unmanned aerial vehicles and the distribution of energy as a sector where, according to individual categories, the activities of UAVs in a specific category are described. From the point of view of aviation history, this issue is relatively new, because for many decades only aircraft with analog instruments have been used for training. From the content point of view, the paper can be divided into two significant parts. The first, theoretical part describes the knowledge of the issue. In 2019, two new Zlín Z-242 aircraft equipped with the Garmin G500 TXi glass cockpit were added to the fleet of the Air Training and Education Centre (LVVC). Therefore in the second, practical part we conducted a survey among instructors and students of LVVC on the issue discussed and their experience of training on this aircraft. In addition, we looked at how to effectively train pilots when using training aircraft with advanced avionics systems. Completion of the practical part of the paper was the creation of multimedia learning material, which should help novice pilots prepare for the use of basic features of Garmin G500 TXi and acquaint them with knowledge that will help especially the first flight hours to be more efficient as they begin the training on new aircraftItem Unmanned aerial vehicle pilot training(University of Zilina, 2021) Sklaličanová, Nikola; Kandera, BranislavThe paper titled "Unmanned aerial vehicle pilot training" is focused on the analysis of unmanned aerial vehicle pilot training and the importance of using an unmanned flight simulator during the practical training of unmanned aerial vehicle pilots. For the realization of the paper, we used a device that served to measure the mental workload of unmanned aerial vehicle pilots during simulated and practical flight. Our experiment involved 5 unmanned aerial vehicle pilots in training who had zero or minimal flying experience. The aim of this work was to investigate to what extent mental workload acts on UAV pilots during simulated and practical flights. The measurements and their analysis showed that a much greater load is exerted on the pilots of unmanned aerial vehicles during practical flight. Through a primary experiment of already experienced pilots, we concluded that the majority of respondents would welcome the opportunity to use an unmanned flight simulator during their training. The paperconcludes with a summary of the individual measurement results, graphical representations of the respondents' answers, as well as an implementation design that could be applied to the training of UAV pilots.
